This year marks the 40th anniversary of a-ha's classic debut album Hunting High And Low and what better time to celebrate the career and legacy of one of the 80s synth-pop greats. Take On Me was of course the uberhit that took the three-piece into the pop elite, but there’s far more to the Norwegian superstars than that piece of perfect pop.
Inside this special edition we tell their fascinating story from learning the ropes as Bridges in their homeland of Norway via their pilgrimage to London to seek their fortunes, on to their 80s breakthrough and right up to the present day. We’ve an exclusive interview with Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, who take us through their journey to the top, via the trials and tribulations along the way, and there’s a special feature celebrating the brilliance of Hunting High And Low, as well as in-depth features on all of their studio albums.
Elsewhere, we chat to Steve Barron, who remembers his favourite videos made for the band, we take a look at their triumphs on the live stage, we revisit their many side projects and collaborations and offer up our definitive Top 40 tracks – not an easy task! Also in this issue, we survey the group’s ongoing legacy and the many famous fans who have taken a-ha’s influence to a new generation of pop fans, we explore their sleeve art across the years, plus there’s features on reveal-all documentary a-ha: The Movie and a chat with its director Thomas Robsahm.
